Which astrology apps have a journal?
Of the apps we checked, CHANI, Astrocot and Mystogian say they include a journal, and House 9 has "Astrology Journal" in its App Store title. We compare what each source says about readings, journaling, zodiac and price. Mystogian makes one of these apps, so read this as a comparison, not a ranking.
What is an astrology journal app?
It is an app where you write about your days and see them next to your birth chart or the current sky. Some give you prompts. Some read your entries with AI. Some just store them.
Three questions sort them quickly:
- Who writes the readings and prompts? People, AI, or both.
- Where do your entries live? On your phone, on a server, or both.
- Which zodiac does it use? Western (tropical), Vedic (sidereal), or a choice.
A journal does not make astrology predictive. What it can do is show you patterns in your own words over time.
How do the journal apps compare?
Everything below comes from each app's own listing or page, seen on 2026-10-25. "Not checked" means we did not confirm it from that page on that date. It does not mean the app lacks it.
| App | Journal, as stated | AI, as stated | Zodiac, as stated | Price, as stated | Source (seen 2026-10-25) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| CHANI | "a live journal — complete with personalized reflection prompts" | Content "written by astrologers, not ai" | Vedic and sidereal not mentioned in its App Store description | Monthly $11.99 (US App Store). Annual not checked | chani.com/app, App Store |
| Astrocot | "Your journal entries are encrypted on your device before they ever sync." | "Powered by local open-weight language models that run directly on your phone's hardware." | "toggle between Tropical and Sidereal systems" | Annual $39.99, Monthly $6.99 (US App Store) | App Store |
| House 9 | Listing title: "Astrology Journal: House 9" | Not checked | Not checked | Not checked | App Store |
| Lumees | Not checked | "Cosmio is an AI assistant that has access to your birth chart and the current positions of the planets." | Not checked | Not checked | FlutterFlow showcase |
| Mystogian (ours) | Reads your birth chart against your own journal and the decisions you log | Uses AI for readings. The AI never calculates placements | Western (tropical) and Vedic (sidereal), kept separate | Free plan. Basic and Pro are paid | mystogian.com |
One name to know: PurpleStar Journal has "Journal" in its name, but its App Store listing describes a Zi Wei Dou Shu (Chinese astrology) chart plotter. It is listed as free, and its listing does not mention AI. (App Store, seen 2026-10-25)
Who writes the readings: people or AI?
- People. CHANI says its content is "written by astrologers, not ai." (CHANI, seen 2026-10-25) Outside the journal apps, TimePassages says: "Every interpretation is written by real, experienced astrologers. Not AI." (App Store, seen 2026-10-25)
- AI. Astrocot says it runs "local open-weight language models" on your phone. Lumees describes an AI assistant called Cosmio. Mystogian uses AI for readings too.
If you want journal prompts and readings written by people, CHANI is the closer match. Mystogian is not, because its readings come from AI.
Our page on astrology apps without AI explains why "who writes the reading" and "who calculates the chart" are two separate questions.
Where do your journal entries live?
Journal entries are personal. Read each app's privacy policy before you write in it.
- Astrocot says entries are "encrypted on your device before they ever sync." (App Store, seen 2026-10-25)
- Mystogian lets you see and delete what it remembers, and you can switch journal analysis off.
- CHANI, House 9 and Lumees: not checked for this page.
Western or Vedic?
- Astrocot says you can "toggle between Tropical and Sidereal systems." We did not confirm Vedic support. (App Store, seen 2026-10-25)
- Mystogian has Western (tropical) and Vedic (sidereal) charts, kept separate.
- CHANI: Vedic and sidereal are not mentioned in its App Store description. (App Store, seen 2026-10-25)
- House 9 and Lumees: not checked.
The two systems can put the same planet in different signs. Our page on Vedic vs Western astrology explains why.
Which one fits what you want?
- Prompts and readings written by people: CHANI.
- AI that runs on your own phone: Astrocot says its models run on the phone's hardware.
- Readings from human experts: Sanctuary says its readers are "real experts—not algorithms!" (App Store, seen 2026-10-25)
- Your chart read against the decisions you log, with a follow-up later: Mystogian.
Whichever you pick, check its chart against a free calculator such as Astro.com with the same settings.
Where does Mystogian fit?
Mystogian is built around the journal. It reads your birth chart against your own journal entries and the decisions you log.
When you log a decision, it follows up two weeks later and again three months later, if notifications are on. That way you can write down how it turned out. Our page on an astrology journal for decisions shows how that works.
Your chart is calculated by astronomy code on our server. The AI never calculates placements. It does the reading. You can see and delete what it remembers, and you can switch journal analysis off. Relationship charts are there for people you add.
There is a free plan, and Basic and Pro are paid. It runs on iPhone and Android and is in beta.
FAQ
- Do I need an app to keep an astrology journal?
- No. A notebook and a free chart from a calculator work. An app adds prompts, reminders, or readings tied to your chart.
- Are my journal entries private in these apps?
- It depends on the app. Astrocot describes on-device encryption. Mystogian lets you delete what it remembers. For the others, read the privacy policy before you write.
- Does keeping a journal make astrology more accurate?
- No. A journal shows patterns in your own life. It does not prove that any reading or prediction is true.
- Do any of these apps use Vedic astrology?
- Astrocot's listing says you can toggle between tropical and sidereal. We did not confirm Vedic support. Mystogian has both, kept separate. CHANI's App Store description does not mention Vedic or sidereal.
